Pokémon Legends: Z-A is part of the ninth generation of the Pocket Monsters franchise.

It's a sequel to Pokémon X and Y, which launched on the 3DS in 2013, and sees players return to the Kalos region. This time around though, the action solely takes place in the futuristic, Paris-like metropolis of Lumiose City.

The Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 exclusive freshens up the long-running Pokémon formula by replacing turn-based battles with a real-time combat system, and introduces the nightly Z-A Royale competition, which is where the majority of trainer battles take place, including the event's Gym Leader-style fights.
